Table with three dishes from The Brunch Club

The Brunch Club (Closed)

Boozy brunches seem to be the new “cool” thing. With the warmer days and lighter nights coming in quick (hallelujah!), I can see myself spending many days over the summer season booking myself in for meals like this one.

I visited their branch in Edinburgh but you will also find them on Old Dumbarton Road in Glasgow where they first opened their doors. And if you haven’t guessed what The Brunch Club specialise in from their name, they serve up a range of brunch dishes, all day long!

So, what does The Brunch Club have to offer aside from their standard everyday menu? A boozy brunch for two people will set you back £50 (£25pp) and is available 7 days a week without having to pre-book. For this price, between two people, you’ll get 2 mains, 2 bellini or mimosas and 4 cocktails.

Note: I didn’t have too much time to stick around when I went so we didn’t get a mimosa or bellini, only the 2 cocktails each throughout the brunch.

Steak frites (top) and sticky hoisin, fried chicken and waffles (bottom)
Sticky Hoisin, spring onion and chilli fried chicken and waffles

From the menu, I opted for the Sticky Hoisin, spring onion and chilli fried chicken and waffles. This was the first time (maybe second?) trying the chicken/waffle combo and boy will I be getting it again. The waffles were soft and savoury. The chicken was juicy and crispy. The sauce was sticky and bursting with flavour — the ultimate combo if you ask me.

This is definitely a meal I’ve thought about more than once since I tried it and I’m not even embarrassed to admit that! For those who are curious, the other main pictured is the steak frites which I heard was great. It came with garlic butter on top and an egg cooked however you choose.

Pornstar Martini and Watermelon Sugar cocktails
Blue Margarita Sours and Solero cocktails

Now…it wouldn’t be a boozy brunch without some alcohol and The Brunch Club know how to shake (and stir) a great cocktail. There were around 10 to choose from but we chose:

  • Pornstar martini
  • Watermelon sugar
  • Blue margarita sours
  • Solero

All of these cocktails were easy on the eye (the bar team know how to make a delicious, eye-catching drink) but only three were easy on the tastebuds. As a tequila lover, the ‘blue margarita sours’ was a bit too much for me. Don’t get me wrong, it looked stunning, but next time I’d order either of the other three cocktails listed above or a different one from the menu instead.

Overall, a really wonderful boozy brunch to try in the centre of Edinburgh where you’re guaranteed bang for your buck.
