Tub of ice cream with a giant looped churro, in front of a neon sign at Loop and Scoop

Loop and Scoop

Loop and Scoop have been around for quite some time in Glasgow and still, it somehow took me until now to make the journey over to try them. Known for being the UK’s first ice cream and churro bar, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to guess what they sell.

Still not clocked on? On the Loop and Scoop menu, you’ll find a bunch of items all of which feature churros or their award-winning gelato (some even include both!). They’re definitely creative when it comes to what they can do with a churro. Not only do they have regular dipping churros, filled churros(!!) and churro bites, but they also have them in the form of lollipops, cups and oysters.

I couldn’t help but order their iconic loop and scoop, the dish they are named after. This is a cup filled with two scoops of gelato which you can choose yourself from the display. It is then topped with a large loop churro in a flavour of your choice. I opted for the biscoff loop which is essentially a plain churro brushed with a biscoff glaze and coated in crushed biscuits.

When I say the whole creation was absolutely phenomenal I am NOT joking! The gelato was smooth and creamy, and the churro was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside — the perfect pairing if you ask me.

You might find yourself waiting up to 15 minutes for your order but considering they make them fresh for each order, you’ll be glad you waited when you finally get your mitts on it. I took mine out to eat but the place was buzzing inside and there are seats inside for you to sit down and enjoy.

If you find yourself in the west end and craving something sweet, you know where to go. Loop and Scoop are open until 10pm most nights except Fridays and Saturdays when you will be able to stop by to cure those late-night cravings until 11pm.

Note: according to their menu, they are able to make most items vegan on request, ask your server and they should be able to sort you out. I would, however like to flag that for those with a nut allergy, you may want to avoid!
