Homegrown Garden Centre

If you’re a fan of cute, but luxury, garden centres with incredible cafes, Homegrown Garden Centre may be the one for you!

I visited Homegrown garden centre in Gartcosh, a small village only a few miles East of Glasgow, and can confidently say it’s the fanciest garden centre I’ve ever visited.

Not only do they have a large selection of indoor and outdoor plants, but they also sell a carefully curated selection of gorgeous homeware items as well as some bits and bobs for animals/pets.

I was there specifically for the cafe, which is upstairs and has a stunning view of the garden. They serve breakfast and lunch dishes as well as a selection of cakes and sweet treats.

We got there at lunchtime and ended up getting a main each and two sides to share between three of us. We tried the:

  • Classic Smoked Bacon Club
  • Heirloom Tomato and Burrata
  • Homegrown Cubano Sandwich
  • Orkney Crab Cakes
  • Goats Cheese Bon Bons

The salad I chose has heirloom tomatoes, burrata, oven-roasted plums, balsamic glaze and rocket served with focaccia croutons. It was super fresh (all of the dishes were, actually!) and super filling.

It’s also worth noting there were plenty of options for veggies, vegans and those who are gluten-free.

If you’re not looking to order any breakfast or lunch dishes, they did also have a wonderful selection of homemade sweet treats. I went up and we all got something from the display cabinet. We tried:

  • Victoria sponge
  • Caramel and Biscoff cake
  • Cherry bakewell tart

All of the baked goods were incredible. The cakes almost tasted like they were made out of clouds — so light and pillowy with just the right amount of sweetness from the icing. I’d happily have a wander around Homegrown Garden Centre and finish up the stroll with one of these and a cup of coffee/tea.

Homegrown Garden Centre certainly does not have the cheapest items (food, plants and homeware included) but it’s totally worth every penny considering all of their food is fresh and made from locally-sourced produce. A great place to visit for an afternoon out — just keep in mind you may need to queue for the cafe as it was super busy when we went…even with a booking!
