Eve
Ever since Virgin opened a hotel in Edinburgh, the food scene in the city hasn’t been the same. With no details throughout the hotel being forgotten, it seems the food in Eve is no exception.
They recently launched a brunch menu which will available every Saturday and Sunday from 12pm-4pm. With a range of brunch classics, sweet treats (including their beautiful brunch board) and a whole selection of cocktails, they really have curated a menu to suit everybody. Whilst enjoying some food, they also have wonderful high-energy live music every week to elevate your brunch experience.
If you’re looking for a drink with alcohol, you’re in luck. They have three variations of Bloody Marys, Martinis and Mimosas. I ordered their breakfast martini made using blood orange gin, lucky liqueur orange, and lemon juice. It’s then topped with a berry-scented bubble which is added to the top of the drink at the table. I always find these things a bit gimmicky but they do add an element of fun and it makes the whole experience feel a little boujee!
The plating of the board is like that of a work of art and comes piled up with a whole selection of pancakes, french toast, waffles and morning cake. There were two of everything so that if you do share between only two people, you can try a bit of everything. You can also customise each item with the different toppings. There was a sweet chocolate sauce, a delectable butterscotch sauce, berry compote, chantilly cream and a bunch of fresh fruit.
There was a fair bit of eating on this board with each item being super tasty. I absolutely loved the butterscotch sauce and being able to top each item myself at the table.
If a sweet brunch doesn’t excite you, they also have nine savoury options to choose from. These include two vegetarian and two vegan dishes. We tried the:
Crispy Chicken Burger (£12)
Filled with a sweet and spicy crispy chicken, kimchi slaw & BBQ yangnyeom sauce, this burger was great. It was on the smaller side compared to burger restaurants but did come with a side of fries.
Avocado Benedict (£10.50)
An English muffin, topped with smashed avocado, plum vine tomatoes, free-range poached eggs and harissa hollandaise — what’s not to love? The harissa hollandaise sauce fully made the dish and tasted just as vibrant as it looked.
This new brunch that Eve has on offer is certainly one of the best that I’ve tried in Edinburgh so far. Considering the setting, the quality of the food, the staff and the live entertainment, the price of brunch at Eve is more than reasonable. On warm and sunny days they also have a quaint little courtyard with outdoor seating too! I highly recommend paying them a visit and giving their new menu a try.
