Fat Hippo x Project Doughnut
If you haven’t yet come across the much-loved burger joint with multiple locations across the UK, Fat Hippo, then where have you been?! They have teamed up with Project Doughnut, the self-proclaimed doughnut experts who ship their projects nationwide, to create ‘The Big D’oh!’.
Let me break it down for you, ‘The Big D’oh!’ is at its core a chicken burger. However, what makes it different is the bun is made from a Project Doughnut pink ring doughnut which brings quite a bit of sweetness. Inside the bun, you’ll find chilli & lime buttermilk chicken, some smoked bacon, and lots of blueberry jello on a bed of herby cream cheese. This creation also comes with a side of chilli and lime fries which you can upgrade for extra ££ if you’d prefer a different side from the Fat Hippo menu.
If I’m being totally honest, I would never go out for a meal and choose a sweet burger over a classic savoury option. However, when Fat Hippo invited me down to try out their newest collab I was intrigued.
I can’t say I fully enjoyed the burger and if I’m being totally honest, I left half of the bun because it was just too sweet for me personally. A burger with a doughnut ring bun alone is sweet enough but with the addition of the blueberry jello (which was completely smothered across the whole chicken fillet), the sweetness was too overpowering for my palate.
On the flip side, if you have a super sweet tooth and are obsessed with trying new flavour combinations/burgers then this collab will be right up your street and would be totally worth trying! For the burger and chips alone, this will cost you £13.50 which I’d say is comparable to their other options on the main menu.
So for everybody interested, all Fat Hippo restaurants will have ‘The Big D’oh!’ on their menu until the 22nd of April, so if this is calling your name be sure to go try it before it’s gone!
