3 Amazing Hot Chocolate Spots in Edinburgh
It’s no secret that Summer doesn’t last long in Scotland. The days are getting shorter and the nights are getting darker (we don’t need to talk about the rain!). However, in my eyes, that only calls for one thing…hot chocolates!
There are hundreds of places to order hot chocolate in Edinburgh, but I think these three spots make some of the best:
First up we’ve got Uplands Roast, a small truck serving hot drinks in the Meadows. With it being a popular commuting route, you might find yourself nearby and if so, you must drop by for one of their famous hot chocolates. The wonderful staff in this quirky little truck serve the most chocolate-y (duh!) drinks which are topped with a handful of small marshmallows, a larger toasted marshmallow, a chocolate garnish and a sprinkle of cinnamon — cosiness in a drink.
The second spot you need to visit is Alanda’s. Despite being known for the incredible gelato they sculpt and serve, it would be criminal to walk by and not try one of their hot chocolates. In the store, they have a chocolate tap which is constantly flowing. The drink is made using chocolate from said tap and can be topped with a healthy portion of cream, a bunch of small marshmallows and a larger toasted one on top for good measure. Delicious, right?
Last, but certainly not least, we’ve got Mimi’s Bakehouse — a favourite spot for many Edinburgh locals. If you’re already there treating yourself to one of their baked goods, make sure to also order one of their hot chocolates. You can get a normal one but if you like to change things up, they often have specials on. The one I tried was a limited edition, inspired by Scotland to celebrate the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August.
All three spots are great…and clearly take the hot chocolate game seriously! Be sure to keep an eye on their social media pages for opening days/hours so you don’t get caught out with last-minute closures.
